Ellen Garvens is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin in Madison (BS,1979)and the University of New Mexico (MA,1982; MFA,1987). She is currently a Professor of Art at the University of Washington. She has recently had solo shows at Washington State University Department of Fine Arts’ Gallery 2 (2011), the Jacob Lawrence Gallery at the University of Washington School of Art and Light Work Gallery in Syracuse, NY (both 2009). Her work has recently been included in Prosthetic Arms Project at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery (2010), Photomedia at the Benham Gallery in Seattle and Mentors at the Seattle Art Museum Rental Gallery (both 2009), and the Pingyao International Photography Festival in Shanxi Provence, China and the Northwest Biennial at the Tacoma Art Museum (2007).
Garvens’ work has been collected by the Tacoma Art Museum (Tacoma, WA), the Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY), The Museum of Fine Arts (Houston, TX), Allen Memorial Art Museum (Oberlin, OH), and the Yale University Art Gallery (New Haven, CT).
